[PRE]aLM - THE STARTUP
Ar. Liew Tze Siang and Ar. Mei Chee Seong founded aLM Architects in 2003 at Penang with a vision of an architectural practice with a committed social, cultural and artistic agenda, a vision that holds true till today. Knowing each other at very young age and growing together in a same neighbourhood, Ar. Liew and Ar. Mei did not plan nor foresee they will work hand in hand as company partners one day. However, fate brings them together to share their architectural dreams and friendship forever when they decided to establish aLM Architects 15 years ago. In spite of close relationship since childhood, they may have different approaches in architecture but they do adopt the same ideology, complimenting each other to achieve goals.
[RE]aLM - THE GROWTH, ADAPTATION & RECOGNITION
In 2004 and 2005, we established our Alor Setar and Kota Kinabalu branch to serve a major estate construction and regeneration in the North and East Malaysia. The initial opportunity to extends the works of aLM Architects came with the commissioning of tourism and hospitality related projects in the Sultanate of Oman in 2007.
Subsequently, initiatives to venturing into overseas market continue to bloom in neighbouring countries such as Indonesia and Thailand. We may not have completed projects in these countries but undeniably, it has been a great learning experience for us through working with other respected international architectural practices. These collaborations has also earned us respect from our international colleagues for our commitments and enthusiasm towards the projects.
The rising awareness of ecological issues and pivotal role we have in the built environment, has led to the establishment of aLM Green in the year of 2O11, aLM Green provides consultancy to address importance of sustainable design in procurement design. aLM Green is one of the active member of the Malaysian Green Building Confederation (MGBC) to provide Green Building Index facilitating services and green building solutions.
Having based in Penang, where its capital, Georgetown accorded as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site on top of the soft spot of art and culture, aLM Architects then extended into heritage building conservation in the year of 2O13. aLM Heritage offers services in conserving interesting old buildings and stories for the quality of life they bring to the present and future generations.
Our growing reputation in the community based regeneration helped us to assure new projects in the central region of Malaysia. A year later in 2014, we opened a new branch in Kuala Lumpur to expand our services and project delivery in the capital following successful architectural commissions.
Growing from a small office of two to over 40 strongs in four states, namely Penang, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, we believe creativity is the quintessence of architectural solutions. We aim to improve the day-to-day issues that exists on site and social context and further enrich the human experience through architecture.
In 2015, our long cherished ambition of achieving notoriety at international platform was first realised when we were proudly awarded Top 10 Architects in Asia region. The reputation we established led us further in securing position in competitive market as well as attaining confidence and acclamation from both existing and new clients. The international recognition is regarded as a milestone to us but we do not stop to challenge our limit, keep on improving along the way and continue to thrive in the industry with multiple awards from prestigious professional boards such as Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM) and invitation to lecture in Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival (KLAF) 2018.
[THE]aLM - THE PRESENT
In order to respond to the strong influence of globalisation and increasing complexity of construction industry, we have undergone series of internal changes and improvements such as expanding the firm, re-branding and diversifying our skill base to include green building design and heritage building conversation for an integrated service delivery. Despite all the challenging situation with limited resources and financial downturn, aLM maintained its roots in the industry for the public and private sector in urban, suburban locations across the Malaysia. We specialise in providing high quality, well designed and deliverable architecture that draws from over 15 years of accumulated knowledge and fortitude.
Today, aLM Architects stands firmly as a nationally recognised practice based on the interdisclipinary approach as essence of the contemporary partnership. We are competent enough to undertake large scale developments and at the same time, we are proficient enough to foster close relationship between partners and clients.
