Pejabat Rekreasi Hubungan Antarabangsa

Completed in 2017, the award-winning Pejabat Rekreasi Hubungan Antarabangsa stands as a testament to thoughtful design. Tasked with expanding a quasi-governmental office to accommodate 100 personnel and linking it seamlessly to an existing visitor information center, the project was meticulously planned to integrate harmoniously into Penang City Park, also known as Penang Youth Park. Sensitive to the park’s natural terrain, the design concept aimed to camouflage the building, allowing it to blend effortlessly into its surroundings. This approach preserves the park's landscape, creating a structure that feels as much a part of the environment as the trees and trails around it.

Essence

Designed with a commitment to accessibility, the building seamlessly connects its various sections through a series of long, gentle ramps shaded by an elegant canopy that hovers above the pedestrian pathways. Guided by a minimalist design ethos, each pocket of the building features large windows that flood the interiors with natural light. To counteract heat gain from direct sunlight—reducing the need for mechanical ventilation—a translucent covering was introduced, providing shade while allowing soft, diffused light to permeate the space. Complementing this are lush vertical green barriers that serve both as aesthetic elements and natural wind catchers, enhancing ventilation. The entire structure commands a striking presence, blending effortlessly into the recreational parkland while setting a new standard for thoughtful, eco-conscious design.

"Remarkable approach where the building's visual and spatial continuity encourage action and demonstrate and demonstrate the transparency and work culture of the civil service."
